Wor-Wic Community College is accepting applications for a full-time academic advisor to provide holistic academic advising services to students, including assisting them with development of their educational and career goals, helping them to create an academic success plan, monitoring student progress toward goal completion and intervening as necessary, and working with transfer students on planning their transition to a four-year institution.  This position is required to periodically work evenings and weekends, including participating in the annual commencement.

Essential Duties

The following list is not intended as, nor should it be construed as, exhaustive of all responsibilities, skills or working conditions associated with this position.

  • Provides holistic academic advising services for all credit students and some non-credit students at various stages of their academic journey by meeting with students in-person, by phone and through online videoconferencing
  • Manages a cohort of students with responsibility for helping those students set educational and career goals, creates and monitors academic success plans to achieve those goals and intervenes with a student when necessary to provide assistance, and works with transfer students to develop plans for transition to a four-year institution
  • Acts as a learning pathway specialist with responsibility for comprehensive knowledge of one or more learning pathways; attends academic department and continuing education division meetings of areas in each learning pathway and communicates with them about advising issues; and shares information from departments with other academic advisors
  • Utilizes Ellucian CRM Advise and Ellucian Student Planning to develop academic success plans and monitor student progress, develops a thorough understanding of these technologies and engages in continuous training on how to best utilize systems to provide high-quality service to advisees
  • Possesses and maintains a thorough understanding of all departmental and institutional policies and procedures needed to accurately advise students, including, but not limited to, financial aid policies, transfer requirements, academic and continuing education curriculum, career/program assessment, payment policies, student success resources and any other information that may benefit students during the advising process
  • Contributes to the annual and five-year comprehensive department assessment process per the College assessment plan
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Two years of administrative or teaching experience
  • Strong computer, organizational, human relations, and oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with a diverse population and understand their unique needs
  • Preference will be given to candidates who possess:
    • A master's degree
    • Experience working as an academic advisor in postsecondary education
    • Bilingual English/Creole skills

Supplemental Information

This is a full-time standard administrative position with excellent fringe benefits. Days and hours of work are Mon. - Fri., 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (1 hour lunch). This position is required to periodically work evenings and weekends, including participating in the annual commencement.
