Position Description

The Haley Barbour Center for Manufacturing Excellence (CME) at The University of Mississippi is accepting applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Practice. This is a full-time, 12 month, non-tenure track teaching position within the CME. Primary duties of the position will be teaching lean manufacturing courses in the CME program. 

Job Responsibilities:

This is a professional position in which the faculty member teaches undergraduate coursework related to lean manufacturing subject matter. The incumbent also visits and identifies business needs of companies and determines potential CME collaboration based on the mission and vision of the CME, works with industry partners to prepare for lean/experiential manufacturing courses with follow-up after the course, develops various continuous improvement activities, and mentors CME students throughout the CME program. The incumbent exercises discretion and judgment in developing student/company interaction, coordinating company/CME events and programs, and supporting the CME Extension Services Program as needed.

Essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

  1. Teach lean manufacturing courses at the undergraduate level.
    2. Mentor CME students throughout the CME program.
    3. Work with industry partners to prepare for manufacturing courses.
    4. Identify business needs of a company and potential involvement based on the mission and vision of CME.
    5. Organize logistics for CME experiential classes.
    6. Coordinate and support CME visits by and to manufacturing companies.
    7. Support the CME Extension Services Program as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree or higher with at least one degree in a subject area of Engineering, Business Administration, Accountancy, Manufacturing, or related field.  

5 years of work experience in manufacturing with demonstrated experience in Lean, Continuous Improvement, or Six Sigma related projects.
