General Statement
The Director is responsible for the overall organization, management and success of the Career Center that is the umbrella over career guidance, co-op ed internships, graduate placement, employer relations, and student employment. This Director provides consistency in all programs. For External Engagement, the Director will develop and maintain partnerships with outside entities to advance outside investments in MSU-Northern in order to meet student and institutional goals and needs. The Director represents the institution to members of industry and the public.
Duties and Responsibilities
Career Center Development
    • Supervise, engage, and evaluate Career Center personnel.
    • Establish policies and guidelines to fulfill program needs and for promoting public awareness of the Career Center.
    • Develop and maintain on-campus recruiting policies and procedures.
    • Contact/work with employers to schedule recruiting visit.
    • Coordinate campus-wide Career Fair Fall and Spring semesters.
    • Develop, administer, and monitor the budget.
    • Serve on appropriate campus committees and academic advisory boards.
    • Work with the deans and faculty to coordinate the Career Center activities with academic units.
    • Work collaboratively with campus offices to implement university priorities include Recruiting, Admissions, Alumni/Foundation.
    • Coordinate marketing and publicity of the Career Center including the website, Northern Network News articles and outside news sources.

 

Employer and External Engagement
  • Serve as the Point of Contact for Employers & Industry Partners to ensure all faculty and staff involved are informed and working together to make their visit successful.
  • Manage/organize employer visits for campus recruiting and for industry partnership program development.
  • Collaborate with employers to develop marketing strategies for enhancement of employer presence on campus.
  • Assess employer relations efforts.
  • Cultivate employer relations consistent with student/alumni/faculty needs.
  • Represent the institution to outside entities including industry, state agencies, and state leadership
Cooperative Education
  • Proactively develop, in partnership with faculty, co-op ed internships employment opportunities based on Northern’s academic program offerings.
  • Assist the student, academic advisor and employer in the preparation of learning objectives appropriate for student’s specific degree program.
  • Coordinate the co-op experience by communicating with employers and students during the term of the co-op. This may include visiting the work site.
  • Prepare statistical reports on the co-op ed internships program for review by administrators and faculty.
  • Coordinate co-op advisory board; board is to include college chairs, faculty representatives, registrar, and others as needed
Graduate Placement
  • Supervise the placement function.
  • Provide personalized job search and job developing services to students, spouses and alumni.
  • Develop employment contacts for graduating students both in-state and out-of-state.
  • Oversee the graduate employment survey process including compilation, which is also utilized for our academic accreditation processes.
Student Employment While Attending MSUN:
  • Direct the Employment Services Coordinator on the job development for securing on and off-campus jobs for students. Human Resources collaborates on this function and processes the hiring documents.
Career Center Website & CareerExpress
  • Direct and work closely with staff to update/maintain the Career Center webpage.
  • Oversee the implementation and administration of CareerExpress.
  • Oversee marketing of the CareerExpress system to students and employers to encourage participation and use of the system.
  • Oversee the generation of reports from the system.
Other Duties
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice Chancellor of Enrollment Management in support of the MSUN mission and goals.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
    1. Bachelor’s Degree Education or Business or equivalent combination of work experience and education

 

 
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
    1. Master’s Degree
    2. Experience in a similar position
    3. Experience working in Human Resources, Industrial/Organizational Management or other field relevant to educating students about the “world of work”
    4. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with diverse populations
    5. Demonstrated experience researching new ideas/concepts and sharing information
    6. Demonstrated experience working with college students or similar populations as a mentor/advisor
    7. Demonstrated experience supervising employees.
    8. Demonstrated experience in creating, implementing, and assessing programs

Title IX Coordinator


The Title IX Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the University’s compliance with federal and state discrimination and harassment laws, including Title IX. The Title IX Coordinator oversees compliance with the University’s Discrimination and Grievance Policy. Specifically, the Title IX Coordinator:
    • Coordinates educational programs and trainings regarding discrimination and harassment prevention for students and employees;
    • Responds to and seeks to resolve reports of discrimination and harassment following the Procedures;
    • Provides information about and, if requested, assists with criminal reporting;
    • Provides information about resources for obtaining advocacy, healthcare, and counseling services; and
    • Coordinates supportive and protective measures for members of the MSUN community.
