Elementary School Assistant Principal

The District is seeking an innovative Elementary School Assistant Principal who is visible, active, and involved in the daily operations of the school building. This individual works directly and collaboratively with the principal to ensure that the school building is safe and secure; assists with the supervision and evaluation of faculty and staff; oversees student management and attendance; and is responsive to student and staff needs, while remaining highly visible and engaging in the school day.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will perform the following duties in the areas of school leadership, student management, building operations, teacher development and evaluation, and parent and family engagement.
- Provide leadership to all staff and students in establishing a positive, structured, learning-oriented school culture.
- Ensure that the school runs smoothly, efficiently, and safely.
- Communicate effectively and regularly with teachers, staff, students, and families.
- Make decisions and approach issues in an informed manner that demonstrates the ability to problem solve, be resourceful, purposeful.
- Model the school values and helps set the standards for professional behavior.
- Ability to perform under stress, deal with persons acting under stress and adapt when confronted with emergency situations.
- Assume responsibility for other tasks as assigned by the Principal and/or District administration.
- Celebrate the successes of our school community.
- Assist the administration in the development and implementation of all student management policies. Maintains high standards of student conduct, enforcing the Code of Conduct and behavioral expectations in a consistent manner, in accordance with due-process rights of students.
- Assist in general supervision of students in areas outside of classrooms (cafeteria, parking lots, bus loading zones, hallways, study halls, etc.)
- Assist in management of bus behavior.
- Assist in the coordination of supervision of In-School Suspension and After-School Detention programs.
- Assist in the training of staff and students on safety and emergency preparedness issues.
- Work with supervisory staff to maintain a safe and secure school environment.
- Actively participate as a member of the Crisis Intervention Team.
- Assist with the development of an effective professional learning community aligned with the school improvement plan, focused on student-learning.
- Assist with accountability for meeting high standards for student academic and behavioral performance through formal and informal observations.
- Maintain regular communication and positive relationships with the families of the school, ensuring they are involved with and informed of their children’s academic and behavioral progress.
- Respond to family concerns promptly and effectively.
Job Qualifications:
Preferred qualifications include: A comprehensive understanding of building leadership; demonstrated commitment to the education of children with varying needs and the advancement of student achievement and growth; knowledge of state assessments; data analysis; experience in annual evaluations (APPR); outstanding written, verbal and relationship building skills.
The successful applicant must have a NY State certification as an SDL, SBL or equivalent, and a minimum of five years of educational experience. The successful candidate will be hard-working, industrious and a self-starter who is adept with technology and data analysis. The successful candidate will build trusting and collaborative relationships with all stakeholders, inspire and motivate staff and students to perform their very best, provide opportunities for continuous improvement, engage parents and the community at the highest level and collaborate with other program-level administrators.
